Isha Anand Sharma started her career by doing episodic tv series like CID. And then she has been a contestant of MTV Splitsvilla 9.
She has played important roles in Indian tv series like Kasam – Tere Pyaar Ki, Woh Apna Sa, Super Sisters – Chalega Pyar Ka Jaadu and Kundali Bhagya.
Isha is such a charming person with a beautiful soul. Along with that, she’s bold and very expressive. In this interview, Sharma has spoken from her heart. From her childhood memories to social stigmas, she talked about it all.
From being unapologetically truthful to helping stray animals, her way of talking and her kind soul can make you fall in love with her.
How anyone cannot adore such an honest person.
Don’t just take my word for it, read the interview and know by yourself.
Where were you born and raised?
Isha: I was born in Shri Ganga Nagar, Rajasthan. I have done half schooling in Shri Ganga Nagar and high school and college in Jaipur. I was graduated from St. Wilfred’s College for Girls with a degree in BBA.
What’s your favorite memory from childhood?
Isha: It can’t be one, I have so many favorite memories. But If I have to choose one I’ll tell you one from my college time. There I participated in the miss fresher contest and I won the title. That was special for me because of that I got the courage to come in this line.
Because initially, I didn’t think I wanted to do this. But then my college friends encouraged me to participate in the competition and then I won.
Now I’ll tell you one thing about my childhood. I used to love orange-colored sugar candies worth of 1-2 rupees. The hawkers used to make those candies in different shapes. I loved it.
The hawker used to come at 4 pm and I would wait for him one hour before around 3 pm. I loved that candy so much. I still love it.
Later on, the candy started to come in different flavors like Pineapple and many more.
I loved those candies so much that I even knew the location of that candy factory. It wasn’t far, just around 5 kilometers away from our home.
I remember at that time I was 5-6 years old. I have eaten those candies for around 5 years, every single day.
How was your post-experience of Splitsvilla 9?
Isha: You know what happens. Whatever we do there they cut almost half of it. The shoot is for 24 hours and they cover that period in one hour on tv.
So, later on when I was watching the show on-screen. I was like where’s the rest of it? They didn’t show the main reason why a certain fight happened. So, I didn’t like how they link up the show.
They don’t show the complete thing, which is why someone gets justifies as wrong and others as right. While the reality is quite different.
The network runs a story on the show. If they want to show the good side of someone they’ll only broadcast that good footage of a particular contestant.
So in the end, it’s the channel who decides what turns to the story they want to give. Which angle they have to push forward, they do it.
Other than that I got a really good response from the show. I also got the title of the most beautiful girl in the Splitsvilla. So, it was good.
But I also got some hate from the show. There was a girl on the show with whom I used to argue a lot. Now, the channel didn’t show some parts of me but they showed her parts.
There’s an incident for which Times of India bashed me a lot. In which I call the other girl contestant fat (moti). You know the same thing she told me so many times, but unfortunately, it was not broadcasted on the show. The parts in which she called that I am so skinny that I look like a bone, those scenes were all edited.
So this part is a little manipulative. Now the story with Bigg Boss is different as there are cameras active 24/7. But it’s not the same in Splitsvilla.
Over there, the fights used to happen off the camera. Remained off camera. So it’s like that.
You have also worked in CID! How was your experience in playing negative roles?
Isha: Yeah even before Splitsvilla, I have worked in CID. I have started my career with episodic shows. I have played a few negative roles and a few positive ones.
Overall, I have done 8-10 episodes of CID each one having a different plot.
And I enjoy doing negative roles. It doesn’t take much effort to perform such characters. Like, I have done Kundli Bhagya, Super Sisters and people liked it a lot.
After doing so many shows, now I enjoy performing such roles. I get to play a lot in such roles. It’s different than simple crying roles (rona dhona).
You play so many things and show various sides of your character. So on Sab TV, I played grey roles. Where sometimes, you have to look good and sometimes bad.
I liked playing that character a lot. I enjoy grey characters to play where you get a switch over.
In which tv shows or movies will we see you in the future?
Isha: Right now I took a break because I am planning to get married. So after sometime sure, you will see.
Recently I have done a song with Zee Music, I hope it gets released soon. I can’t tell anything about it other than it’s a very nice song.
How did you get interested in Swimming?
Isha: Since school time. I started learning it from my school days. I just love water. I love it so much that even if I wouldn’t know how to swim I would still go into the water.
Whenever we go out to travel to beaches etc. I spent near about an hour there, just chilling and swimming.
Which is your favorite book?
Isha: I am reading a lot on Yoga these days. There’s a book called Kundalini Yoga. I am reading that book.
What makes a good life?
Isha: The state of being content. Because the numbers and wishes never end.
If I talk about my personal experience.
I used to think, If I get one show I’ll be very happy. But when I got that show, I was like, one more. Then when I got more shows, now I wish for a good film. I just don’t get satisfied.
But if you want to get inner peace. The state of being content is the best thing you can do. That way you’ll be happy.
Do the work which fulfills your needs. Then keep doing work while being content. Just don’t be greedy.
What risks are worth taking?
Isha: Calculative risks are always better. Look at the ups and downs and then take the risk.
Are You Single?
Isha: I am in a relationship for two years. I am already engaged. Just planning for marriage. My fiancé is in Air India as a Captain.
When do you truly feel alive, you know getting the chills and vibrations in your body?
Isha: Some people find my reason behind it very strange. I don’t enjoy a lot the adventures or trips. But when I feed stray animals or do something good for stray animals then I feel inner happiness.
That happiness is the best feeling that I get.
So, this influence has always been there, since I was a child. My parents have taught me that even if you have one bread then why to have it all. If you can help someone by sharing it, you should do that.
Don’t give the full and only bread you have but try to share it.
Do you take anything for granted that you think you should not take?
Isha: Yeah (While laughing), I should not take my fiancé for granted. But I do that every time. Yeah, family, I take for granted. Just my loved ones.
Rest I am very practical. I know that you need to keep working, otherwise things won’t be the same. Now let’s take fitness and body workout for example. I have to be consistent in working out otherwise I won’t be as fit as I am right now.
I know and realize that if I won’t make good content then my growth will slow down. But when it comes to family and loved ones, I always take them for granted.
Like, where are they gonna go, they are with me.
What is the best thing about you?
Isha: Arrey, I don’t know it yet. Now people tell me good things about me all the time. And most of them I didn’t even have thought about.
If I have to say the best thing about myself, it would be I am not judgemental. I like to think in both ways. So, that’s a good thing about me.
What would be your spirit animal?
Isha: A mixture of monkey and cat.
What are your favorite mobile apps?
Isha: Calm – The meditation app. And recently I started learning to edit so, I would say Lightroom.
What’s the hardest lesson you’ve learned?
Isha: Nothing comes for free.
Do you think you are a good actor?
Isha: I think I am on the way to becoming a good actor. As there’s always scope for learning, so I am on the path to becoming a very good actor at the end.
Three Interesting facts about you?
- People think that I am quite fit. But people don’t know that in one of my legs there’s an iron rod with screws in it. My one leg is full of rod and screws.
- People think I don’t know how to cook. But in reality, I am a very good cook. I can cook anything.
- I used to suck my thumb until the age of 15. Because of that previously I even got braces on my teeth for two and a half years. But now they are normal.
Have you ever saved someone’s life?
Isha: Yeah but only animal lives. A lot of animals actually, there’s no count.
What are you addicted to?
Isha: I use my phone a lot. And I am addicted to tea. I am also trying to quit tea but not able to do so.
What gives your life meaning?
Isha: First, doing something for the stray animals my life is meaningful.
Second, I would say Yoga. Because of Yoga, I am learning so much about myself. Because of Yoga, I stopped being judgemental.
And I learned to keep myself satisfied and being in the state of content.
Are you insecure about something? If yes then what?
Isha: (While laughing) Yeah, I am insecure about my nose. I think it’s pretty fat. I don’t like my nose at all.
Any illegal thing you have done?
Isha: I have stolen something from my home. Actually, I used to steal in my childhood. Steal money from the temple.
There is a temple near my nanihaal. I love the lord Shiva so much that you can say I am his fan. In the old times, people used to keep one or two rupees on the Shivling.
And there used to be a candy shop near that temple. So whatever candy I wanted to eat, I would pick money for it from the Shivling and get candy for myself.
Even the Pandit Ji at the temple knew about it that this girl comes here, picks up the money and buy candy with it. But he didn’t say anything to me. But slowly my family came to know about it and then they told me and make me understand that this is not the right thing to do. It’s a kind of theft.
So, after that, I didn’t do it.
But there’s another incident. There was a big nice party on my cousin’s birthday. And she received a geometry box as a gift. She loved that geometry box and I loved it too. I wanted it, so I picked it up and brought it home.
Later on, my mother came to know that I have that geometry box. She called my bua ji and told her that I have it. Then I got punished for my mistake (Bdi maar pdi mujhe) and learned the lesson that we can’t do things like this. It’s wrong.
So these kinds of silly things I did in my childhood. But did nothing illegal I would say.
Do you think these daily soaps are giving good messages?
Isha: I personally don’t believe in the messages these daily soaps put out there. If you ask me, I am not quite happy with the drama. I would say, it’s very impractical.
That’s not real and there’s no way it’s going to happen. No one’s gonna sleep with wearing saree and full make-up on. One lady is dying five times and coming back from death, it’s not practical.
But people enjoy these shows, as they are tired of their daily lives. They get something for their entertainment. It is a dreamy world.
Overall I would say that these dramas are impractical.
What social stigma does society need to get over?
Isha: If a girl is wearing short clothes or dressing the way she wants to, it means she’s inviting people to be banged on. This mentality needs to be gone. People don’t need to react like she’s a slut or a bad person.
It’s a very bad mentality. Even some girls have this kind of mentality.
Mujhe bda strange lagta hai, aur bhut dukh hai is baat ka. That many males think like that but even many women think like that too.
That if a certain girl is wearing short clothes, so now she wants to have it, now she wants to get banged. So this is very sad.
Why sad, because some males think like that I can understand but even the women think like that, it breaks my heart.
Now so many social stigma’s are getting over. And in big cities people are getting over this one that I talked about.
But one more thing I find it very unfair is when people play the feminist card. What is the meaning of feminism? I am not feminist I think it’s bullshit.
If we say that the girls and boys are equal. So where does the feminist word came in? It’s biased then. You don’t talk about equality if you are feminist. If you are talking about equality then don’t talk about being a feminist.
One side you are talking about equality and on the other side, you are giving importance to something else. Equal means both are the same.
Na woh jyada, na woh jyada, dono equal.
For me the feminist word is bullshit. I believe in equality.
What do you think about your life now, how it’s going?
Isha: I used to be like I have to be politically correct in the interviews. But now because I am not judgemental so now I think, just let it be.
Let me be real. Previously it wasn’t like this. I used to be a little judgemental.
But you get changed based on the influences you have on yourself.
Insaan ek jaisa nhi rehta, waqt ke saath badal jata hai.
A person learns and gets influenced. I am not judgemental myself, so I don’t give a shit anymore. I don’t give a damn, ok let it be.
What food have you never eaten but would like to try?
Isha: There’s nothing like this. Whatever I have wanted to eat, I have always tried.
What would a world populated by clones of you be like?
Isha: Then, It’s gonna be pretty boring. I am dealing all by myself. I need someone to talk to. I don’t believe in fantasies. I like to live in the real world. So I am happy with what I have.
What movie can you watch over and over without ever getting tired of?
Isha: I can’t watch movies over and over. Chahe woh kitni bhi achi ho. This is being real me. I can’t watch a movie more than twice.
Sorry, as there are so many lovers of Sholey and DDLJ. But I can’t watch a movie on repeat mode. If I forget something about a movie after like one or two years, then I tend to watch it again. Otherwise, I don’t.
Where do you get your news?
Isha: Times of India app. And on TV I watch the Republic channel these days or ABP news. I also have some gossip friends. If I have to take the news from personal circle these gossip friends keep all the news. They always stay updated.
So, if I need to know something in the personal circle, I ask them what’s going on, what’s new. And they give me all the inner circle news.
Would You Rather Segment
Would you rather have 3 feet or 3 hands?
Isha: 3 Hands
Would you rather only be able to whisper or only be able to shout?
Would you rather be able to freeze time or travel in time?
Isha: Travel In Time
Would you rather live without music or without television?
Isha: Without television any day!
Would you rather know how you are going to die or when you are going to die?
Isha: Neither – None – Zero! I don’t wanna know when I am dying.
Would you rather have your dream job or find your true love?
Isha: Find my true love. But it can be like this too, after getting my true love, I can also get the dream job. And that’s my dream job only, to find my true love.
But if I have to choose one on top of the other, then true love.
Would you rather have the ability to read people’s minds or make two people fall in love?
Isha: Make two people fall in love. I don’t want to know what kind of weird stuff is in their minds.
Would you rather be able to run as fast as a cheetah or fly, but only as fast as a tortoise?
Isha: Flying on the speed of a tortoise. I would be happy with that.
Would you rather invent a new gadget or discover a new species?
Isha: Discover new species.
Would you rather be a brilliant scientist or a world famous painter?
Isha: While laughing – I am getting interested in science these days. I watch all the documentaries on Netflix related to Mars and all. So, I would say a brilliant scientist.
Let me tell you one more thing. I think I can be a painter. But I want to do the thing which I think I cannot do.
